Oh Cookie Monster! Who knew you loved anything besides cookies!! I do love Wonky Stars myself and decided to make a project with them for my mother as a pre-Christmas gift. This way she can have it now to enjoy.

When I was visiting her at Thanksgiving we went to Joann’s to shop the sales.  She “spotted” this polka dotted fabric she liked so I bought a ¼ yard to use as the back of the table runner (this info was not disclosed to her!)

The two end stars were pieced from 2 ½” squares and the middle one with 3” squares. I fussy cut the center squares from another favorite of hers, old fashioned holiday print. I found the charming fabric with Victorian (?) winter/Santa scenes at Hobby Lobby. I contemplated sashing each block but decided not to because I like how the star blocks look  like one piece. I free motion quilted around each star. On the boarder, I did loopy loops and I did struggled a bit. It was harder to go with the FMQ flow on a small piece and I was fighting my tension adjuster tooth and nail! Overall the FMQ looks fine (from a distance :P )

  1. The fabric for the center of your stars is so cute! It’s nice to have the pink polka dots for some of your star points…ties in the backing to the front of your quilt! This such a nice gift. I’ve been practicing my machine quilting on smaller projects and I’m getting better too. It’s going to be awhile before I can say I like to machine quilt.

    1. Thank you! I hear ya, machine quilting definitively takes practice. I enjoy it “in my mind” then it can be a different story when sewing. The work you have shared on your blog is really good! You definitely have the hang of it. On a tutorial i was watching the woman said it can take up to a year to feel you have mastered FMQ, so we both have to hang in there !!! :)
