Quilts of Valor Project

I am so excited to be a part of making a quilt to donate to Quilts of Valor; my Modern Quilt Guild’s first community project of the new year. The instructions: to make Wonky Star blocks 12.5 or 8.5 inch finished using Kona Snow (background) and red and/or blue fabric for the points. I made three.

I have learned to take my time measuring, cutting and sewing and I am pleased to report it is well worth it! I am happy how nice these blocks all came together; a major personal improvement for me is seeing aligning seams and matching corner points :) Yea!

The QOV website states, “The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.”

I am so excited to see it finished and will be sure to share here.

Thanks for stopping by 🇺🇸 Abbie

  1. Love the blocks and how awesome you are participating in this wonderful program. A friend of mine did one last year and it went to a WWII veteran in the hospital in his last phase of life. I saw the photo of him with his quilt and he was radiating joy!

  2. Your wonky stars look great! The stripy one is my fav. What method did you use for cutting and measuring? I have to confess that I usually end up pulling and tugging to get everything (sort of) aligned….

    1. Thank you Sandy! I was just super careful fabric was squared up and didn’t shift before I rotary cut the squares. I pressed seams to one side and did final rows by nesting the seams…held my breath, sewed, looked, then took a big sigh of relief when they looked ok! 😯
