The excitement with this project was not so much the challenge but that was a commission! By a friend of my father’s and true Ole Miss Rebels football fan. Both are enjoying retirement in Oxford MS, also home to the University of Mississippi.
These tablecloths are for very important occasions, tailgate parties in the “Grove,” described as “the Holy Grail of tailgating sites” by Sporting News.
Rebel fans are known to hire interior decorators and caterers for their party tents. Men wear ties and women; dresses. Don’t hanker for a beer? How ’bout a good ole fashioned “old fashioned” y’all!
I made four blue with red trim and four vise versa, 60″x90″ each. That’s an eight table spread!! What’s on the menu? Lots of pork barbecue, cajun catfish and maybe even fried alligator but true to southern hospitality, a Yankee vegetarian like myself is still welcome…I’ll take some corn fritters and Mississippi mud pie please!
If you are interested in this southern tradition the NYT gives a good introduction with this article: Tailgating Goes Above and Beyond at the University of Mississippi
Now that I have finished the tablecloths, I will be returning to quilting my work in progress (Summer Nights) and can’t wait to share it with y’all! So come on back now ya hear :)
