I Wish You a Merry QAL Block #7 Release!

Block #7 “Poinsettia” is brought to you by the talented Sandy Maxfield of SandyStar Designs where you will find the complete block pattern and tutorial.

When I saw Sandy’s block, I loved it so much as it was that I decided to follow her chosen color palette.

The block is pieced with half square triangles, quarter square triangles and squares. I found Sandy’s pattern instructions straightforward and easy to follow.

My Tips:

I always read through the entire pattern first, so I have a good understanding of how it is going to be assembled.

Make sure to follow the diagram when joining your green/white triangles to the red or pink ones.  I goofed the first time and with a 50/50 chance of lining them up right, well let’s just say I was in need of my seam ripper.

When I finished my block, I found what I thought was a magical accident that occurred on the back. In the center there was a perfect little pinwheel that pressed flat! What are the odds of that?

I asked my fellow hostesses and Bobbi told me the odds can be 100% every time! April had learned it from the teachings of  Eleanor Burns and Sherry provided this great tutorial from Purple Daisies Quilting. Thank you Ladies!

You can add a center applique to your block if you like. I am still deciding whether I will or not, right now I am just so pleased to look at how nice my center points all come together ;) It will be so fun to see what everyone comes up with for their individual flower!

I have already made a second block for a pillow for my mother who loves Poinsettia.
