Block #9 “Reindeer Games” is brought to you by the talented Bobbi Bridgeman of Snowy Days Quilting where you will find the complete block pattern and tutorial.
This is a pieced block. Bobbi’s pattern is very explicit, with directions and accompanying photographs for each step, making it easy to follow.
My Tips:
This block has a lot of pieces. So after I cut them all, I organized them by groups in the order that they would be assembled according to the pattern. This also helps you as you are sewing, having visualized how the entire block will come together.
Bobbi stresses the importance of 1/4″ consistant seams for her block, so I followed her tip to do a practice test with two 2” squares of scrap fabric that she outlines at the start of the pattern.
I really like Bobbi’s tip for sewing the “stitch and flip” pieces; to sew just outside your drawn line on corner side to give just a tiny bit more fabric to fold over to reach and fill in the corner to the overall correct piece size.
The only variation I made to my block was the direction of his eyes. You do not need to sew the pieces any differently than the pattern instructs to do this.
When I met my completed Rudolf in person, I was as proud of him as Santa was on Christmas Eve! He is so charming and full of fun.
My favorite TV Christmas special ever is the 1964 classic “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” narrated by Burl Ives.
It was fascinating to read this article about the story of the “real life” original puppet dolls from the show and a few of the characters journey to restoration.
Please visit all the hostesses blogs to read their tips and see their completed blocks in a variety of fabric and color inspirations.
