And it was all Yellow 🎵

Quilted Bird Door Hanging

Spring has been slow to visit us in Pennsylvania. Making this hanging for our front door cheered me up.

I used my Kona solids and two pieces of fabric purge survivors, a yellow polka dot and a cotton twill with a cute bird print.

I practiced my FMQ and have to say this was the first time I felt “I was leading it, not it leading me!” I’m too pleased with myself 😋

Quilted Door Hanging

The inspiration for this project came from making March’s block from Patterns by Jen’s blog hop  2018 Monthly Color Challenge. And March’s is all yellow!

I made a variation of Sherry’s Powered by Quilting’s pattern:

March is Yellow

This block is 12 x 12 with the center being  8”. I just made three smaller 4” diamond in a square blocks for the door hanging.

Every time I think of yellow, I sing the Coldplay song (out loud of course.) D says “Do you have to do that in the grocery store?!”

  1. Hi Abbie,
What a happy, totally Spring hanging! I would be so happy to see this when visiting your house. Your FMQing looks great – nice job. It looks like you mapped out a plan before starting – that makes all the difference, doesn’t it?! ~smile~ Roseanne

  2. Great job, Abbie. It does look like spring and yes it is a very.slow.process this year! Glad you are overcoming some FMQ challenges. I am tryinng to be creative with mine on a quilt I am finishing up but haven’t decided motifs. We all get there, in our own time, and in our own way. Try not to get distracted by where others are but be encouraged by your progress and each milestone you reach!

  3. That yellow and that blue are spectacular! I need to get more into solids someday – I love your piece (the fussy cut birds are perfect with the solids. I hope Spring hurries up and gets to visiting you!
