Baby Quilts

Oh my gosh! A patterned fabric has made its way into my recent sewing projects. When I saw Carolyn Gavin’s  “BFFs” for Windham Fabrics, I had to order it and fortunately had reason to, my cousin and his wife had a baby girl.

My Pusheen kitty quite likes to snuggle with this little blanket and I hope the little girl will too.

On the smaller solid squares I hand stitched hearts. I free motion quilted the solid borders that frame the kitty fabric.

The backing is a pretty delicate floral print.

This cousin has a brother, and he and his wife welcomed a baby boy recently. Here is his quilt:

My swamp thing “Swampy” found his way into it to have a good snuggle before it is shipped out!

I used a baby book fabric pannel for the blocks and tried some wavy FMQ lines, the backing is a soft flannel.

Both are small “cuddle quilts” that the simple layout for I drew out on graph paper.

These two cousins are much younger than me, but I think some of my critter collection revealed here says I’m young at  heart?!

  1. Hi Abbie! That is THE cutest fabric!! Your cousins are going to just ADORE these, and they will certainly feel all the love you stitched into them. Happy Happy Sunday to you. ~smile~ Roseanne

  2. Wonderful quilts and so fun seeing your critters. I love prints for children and how fast those baby quilts work up! You did a great job venturing into prints – the background and backing for the boy’s quilt make my heart sing. I guess that’s because I have a boy…well he’s 24 but I always think boy things are a little harder than girls.

    1. Thank you Kathleen!
I love fabric for kids too and am always happy to have an “excuse“ to buy them and then
have some left over to incorporate them into little projects for myself.

I’ve made more boy gifts than girls so it has made me appreciate those fabrics too.
Your son is grown up but of course boy quilts have a special place in your heart. 💕😊
