In between working behind the scenes on the Sew, Let’s Quilt Along, (the first mystery block will be released next Tuesday 3/12!), I am making progress on my version of Portland Modern Quilt Guild’s “Stars Galore” quilt.
I’m making a total of nine 24 x 24” finished blocks with a total of 191 4.5” background squares. When I first started cutting I thought ughhh … but I just got zen about it voila, all cut! Some of the background prints have a metallic sheen as well, adds even more star sparkle!
The star themselves are in Kona solids and BasicGrey’s Grunge “Seeing Stars” from Moda.
I’m thinking about “QAYG”, quilting as you go. I never have on a full sized quilt, it will be easier to FMQ on a domestic but for those of you that have experience with this method, is it a real pain to put together to finish? That has always been my mental block to trying it.
Only five more to go!
⭐️ I do love star blocks, oh so sparkily! ✨
Thank you for visiting me!

Abbie, they are looking great. I am anxious to see if you QAYG. I never have, I have the same fear of putting them together when they are all done.

Thanks Jan!
I think I will be taking the QAYG plunge!

Abbie, your blocks are beautiful…love the fabric! QAYG would be perfect — there are methods to use for finishing. I use Jera Brandvig’s technique that doesn’t use any joining strips. I can walk you through the steps if you are interested.

Abbie is interested – right Abbie?!! If she isn’t, I am. I think you need to do a post, Karla. ~big smile~ Roseanne

I definitely don’t want to use sashing! I would love and appreciated your help, so nice of you to offer it :) I’m sending you a message via email, I’m looking at Jera B’s book now.

Now that my company is gone I can write a summary of how I do QAYG . Hopefully, I can find pictures to demonstrate :)

Hi Abbie! Oh, I love your collection of star blocks. Especially the first one, with the dreaded Y seam. Nope, not going to touch it but I do love yours!! Happy Wednesday to you. ~smile~ Roseanne

Thank you Roseanne, Ha! I was surprised how well the Y seam worked but it is a bit tricky and those blocks were off a little in size when finished 🤪

So sparkily, indeed! I think the QAYG will work. There are methods that are easier than others. SomethingRoseMade sent me a like….I will look for it after church for you. I liked this way of doing it; but confess to not having tried it. As you know a couple of people did it in our QAL – maybe look up how they did it – and of course You tube. I am sure you will find one that makes your heart sing and your quilt get quilted.

Hi Kathleen,
Vanda did it for the last two QALs and that got me interested in it. I don’t want
any sashing and watched ways of just sewing the blocks together with a seam but it definitely gives a different look. I enjoy FMQ but not on a big quilt.
Thanks for your support, Ive decided to QAYG on this project and am getting excited to try it.
