“Sew, Let’s Quilt Along” Segment 1 Wrap Up!

It’s a wrap for Segment 1! We have released five block patterns and now would like to share some small projects you could make with them. We will be releasing a total of thirteen blocks so you may decide to wait to make up your mind on your final project or projects.

If you complete all five of the blocks in Segment 1 and post one photo showing all five of your completed blocks on our FB page, IG #sewletsqal, or the host’s linky party ( found  at bottom of this post), by May 20, 2019 by 11:59 pm (EST), you will be entered into the random drawing for the segment prize. The prize winner will be announced on the start of Segment 2, May 21st.

To qualify for the Grand Prize you need to make all thirteen blocks and use them to make a quilt top or in small projects.

As a small project host, I’m excited to share what I have made! It is a joy to have my sewing space newly decorated with all of them.

Wall Hanging

My first small project is a wall hanging I made using Sandra’s 18″ x 24″ Sewing Machine block.

I personalized the machine with my blog name and had fun practicing my free motion quilting. I love it!

To make it hang-able, I took two 3″ squares and folded them in half, pinning one in each top corner just before adding the finishing binding. I cut a dowel rod to size and placed it in these corner pockets. You can hang your piece directly on the wall or tie a ribbon to the rod.

 

Quilted Tote:

 

I used April’s Mug and Bobbi’s Thread Tales blocks to make this super cute quilted tote bag.

I used the free pattern tutorial I found on bluprint, 1-Hour Quilted Tote Bag by Lindsay Conner of Lindsay Sews.

The pattern uses 15″ x 15″ pieces but I adjusted mine to 12 1/2″ x 15 1/2″ by adding 3 1/2″ pieces to the bottom of both of my quilt blocks. This works out perfectly to be the base of the standing tote. I added ribbon for handles, the pattern does provide fabric handle directions though if you prefer. Oh and it’s lined too!

Lindsay’s tutorial is wonderfully easy to follow and it is a simple project to complete…but let’s just say it did not take me an hour! Some days it takes me an hour to trim blocks, measure and/or cut my fabric and batting. At any rate it really looks much more intricate to make than it is and I think you will love the result.

Table Mat:

Sherri’s Ruler block makes the perfect mat for my sewing desk! I did some straight line quilting on the diagonal, just sew pretty!
