I’m happy to announce the release of the Block 7 of the Sew Let’s Quilt Along “It’s a Pressing Issue” designed by Karen Thurn of Tu-Na Quilts, Travels and Eats. Visit Karen’s blog to view the block tutorial and download the free pattern!

This is a pieced 12″ x 12″ finished block with added embroidery and rick rack embellishments. Karen’s personality always shines through in her patterns. So it’s full steam ahead for Block 7, it will be exciting to see all your fun versions!
My Tips:
- I always review a pattern completely before cutting. It helps me know what techniques will be used and get a feeling of how the pieces go together.
- Starch! Starch fabric before you cut. Stiffer fabric keeps smaller pieces from stretching out of shape.
- I added rick rack cord, a perfect color that I found in my ribbon box. I went to iron it flat first and it melted and stuck to my iron! It was polyester and forunately I had enough to finish my block. Just a cautionary tale ;)
- Enjoy and have fun!
I love this block because I find ironing relaxing, a purposefully present activity.
I also enjoyed making the nine patch blocks. It has been awhile since I have and the mini ones that make up your quilt are fun to do.
Visit the Segment 2 hosts to see this block in a variety of fabric and color inspirations. Hosts also provide their own tips to sewing the block, as well as answer any questions you have.

What a jazzy looking iron! Thanks for the heads-up about the content of the rick rack. That will be helpful for all of us. Great job.

Thanks Leslie!
I’m happy you think so! 😊
Yes, cotton is always best for ironing isn’t it?! 😉

Pretty block! Didn’t know that about ric rac, but I’ll take that warning seriously when I add my cord.

Just avoid polyester! 😣

Ric rac melts???? Yikes! I don’t use it much so its good to know. I try to remember to turn my iron down whenever it is not cotton or unknown, but I would not have thought that about the ric rac.

Yikes is right! Glad it was just a little bit. Most rick rack is cotton; apparently I had bought some cheap stuff, oops! 😯

Hi Abbie! What a cute block. I love your fabric choices. It looks just like an iron spritzing the fabric with a little mist. ~smile~ Roseanne
