“Sew, Let’s Quilt Along” Segment 2 Wrap Up!

#sewletsqal

It’s a wrap for Segment 2! We have released four more  patterns during this segment, Blocks 6-9. Segment 3 starts July 16, 2019 and will be the final installment with the release of Blocks 10-13. You can use your blocks to make individual small projects or all of them to make a complete quilt. Either way, if you make and use all thirteen blocks, you can enter the Grand Prize giveaway starting on September 10, 2019.

As a small project host, I’m excited to share what I have made!

Framed Pin Cushion

I wanted to make a wall hanging for my Pin Cushion Block 8 designed by Sherry Shish of Powered by Quilting. I thought why not frame it? So I did! This is an inexpensive 8″ x 10″ wood frame from Micheal’s that I painted with very inexpensive acrylic craft paint. I love it!

I had already hand embroidered my appliques so to quilt it, I added a thin batting to the  and echo stitched the embroidery thread lines and outlined the cushion. I did not trim the block down, I just folded around the frame back. This way I can easily remove it and use it in its full size some other way if I chose. Also I put it together without the glass.

12″ x 12″ Pillow

I made an adorable pillow with Jennifer’s of The Inquiring Quilter Block 6 and Kathleen’s of Kathleen McMusings Block 9. Here it is posing throughout my garden in a little vintage child’s chair, which it will also be sitting on when I move it inside.

To make the pillow, I used the quilt as you go method (QAYG) for each block. I added the batting, without fabric backing, and free motioned quilted both.

Trim any extra batting, and place the two blocks right sides together. Next, pin together and sew three sides together while leaving an opening on the forth of about 4″. Trim the points off all the corners, and turn the inside out.

I had some fluffy poly-fleece batting that I cut into approximately 12″ x 24″ pieces, rolled them up and began stuffing. Fill your pillow to your desired puffiness!

Fold the raw edges of the opening into the pillow and hand stitch closed. Easy Peasy and oh so pretty!

  2. Cute projects, Abbie! I really like the idea of framing blocks! I may do that with one or two, but I am holding out yet. I think I’d like to make a quilt with all of my blocks. :)
