Welcome to the release of Block 2 of the Destination: Quilt Along. Quilt Retreat Camper is a pattern written and designed by April Adams. You can download the pattern for free during the duration of the QAL by visiting her blog JANDABendQuilts.
April’s block has a simple two piece background with an appliqued design of an adorable teardrop camper.
This summer so many of us are eager to get moving again! With this camper you can go to that Quilt Retreat and bring all your gear in style!
- With any applique block, I always check to see if my background fabrics show through the applique pieces. A darker or print background may show through lighter colored appliqued pieces. You can always add a piece of light fusible interfacing to the lighter pieces before adhering the applique fusible.
- If you like your applique blocks to have less stiffness, simply cut out the center of the fusible paper inside the template lines design before adhering to fabric. Leave at lease a 1/4″ to 1/2″ (depending of the template size) around the edges. This technique can create a bit of “puffiness” in the center though, so you have to weigh the choices! I did not cut out the centers on my block. I like to use Heat-n-bond Lite paper.
- Embroider the edges as desired to secure them; with raw-edge, zigzag or satin stitch to name a few.
Whether you like retro, modern, or campers for “glamping”, have fun and make it your own!
