Fall Into a QAL Quilt Top Settings!

Now that all 12 blocks for the Fall Into a QAL have been revealed, the hosts have completed their quilt tops for you to give you ideas and tips for setting layouts. Here is my completed quilt top:

#fallintoaqal

I’m so pleased with how it turned out!

Not all of my blocks were exactly 12 1/2″ when completed, but I was able to square them to 12 1/4” each.

For my quilt top finish I have a 1” finished sashing around each block. I used my three background colors.

For each block, I cut two 12 1/4” x 1 1/2” and two 14 1/4” x 1 1/2” pieces. I then sewed the shorter pieces to the top and bottom of the block, pressed, and sewed the two longer pieces to each side, always using a 1/4” seam allowance.

Total,  I cut four sets of sashing pieces in each background color; blue, yellow and green.

To complete, I sewed the blocks across in rows of three. Then sewed the four rows together.

The finished quilt top size is 45” x 55” which will also be my fabric backing size. Now to pick binding and quilting! I think it will be “stitch in the ditch.”

Thank you to everyone who participated! It is going to be so exciting to see everyone’s unique and beautiful quilt tops.

Please visit all of the QAL hosts to see their quilt top settings in a variety of inspirational styles!

  3. Oh my goodness this quilt top makes me smile. I was looking at it trying to decide which was my favorite block and I’ve narrowed it down to 2 – the owl with glasses and the campfire. Now I will go peek at the other QAL hosts :-)
