The much anticipated Block #2 is the “Christmas Tree Farm” brought to you from the talented quilter April Adams of JANDA Bend Quilts, where you will find her free pattern and tutorial.
Fun fact: April and her husband have a real life tree farm in Oklahoma.
April’s tutorial for her block is clear and easy to follow with step by step instructions. It was a good block for me to work on those getting consistent 1/4″ seams. I am so happy with how it turned out:
Do you say “Yea!” when your attention to detail pays off? I sure do and outloud! Behold, a 3 1/2″ by 3 1/2″ “triangle in a square” block.
In Step #5 you will be trimming a half inch off the bottom of your trees. Trimming the bottom makes room to add your tree trunk piece, again resulting in a 3 1/2″ block when sewn together.
April’s instructions even tell you which direction to press your seams and when it was time to sew the rows together, I was glad I followed them. It made for perfect line up of nestled seams, my preferred method.
Also, I followed the instructions for the traditional pieced block. If you prefer the paper piecing method, several hostesses did too and the templates for this option are also included in the instructions.
Please visit all the hostesses blog posts to read their tips and see their completed blocks in a variety of fabric and color inspirations for Block #2.
