Hello! It’s month four of the Barn Quilt BOM from Sherry Shish of Powered by Quilting.
This month you will make a lot of Flying Geese blocks. 80 to be exact! The geese plus four Square in a Square blocks will connect month 3’s blocks to make four larger blocks.
So, making all these flying geese units requires marking 80 3″ background fabric squares on the diagonal. Then you will need to trim each completed unit to 2 ½” x 4 ½”. For me this requires patience because neither is a favored quilting process of mine! But I have taught myself not to rush through these important steps and to just get in the zone of the process :)
Sherry’s pattern includes complete instructions on how to make these “No Waste” Flying Geese and Square in a Square units.
Again, this month chain piecing is an essential time saver and helps keep your piecing progress organized. Chain piecing is a technique to sew your same set pieces continuously in an assembly fashion with out having to stop, lift the needle, cut the thread and them start again with a new set.
So here’s how Month 4’s blocks look finished.
Oh Ruthie! She must inspect to make sure the points match; excuse the interruption please!
Next month is making the star center piece of the quilt. I’m really excited about that!
